Bill Nye Magnetism Worksheet

Magnetism is a physical phenomena that are mediated by magnetic fields. Electric currents and the magnetic moments of basic particles give rise to a magnetic field, which acts on other currents and magnetic situations. The Bill Nye Magnetism Worksheet, available at the links above, guides students to focus on their most recognizable effects that occur in ferromagnetic materials, which are powerfully attracted by magnetic fields and can be magnetized to become lasting magnets, producing magnetic fields themselves. Very few substances are ferromagnetic and the most widespread ones are iron, cobalt and nickel along with their alloys. The prefix ferro- refers to iron because undeviating magnetism was first observed in lodestone which is a form of natural iron ore called magnetite.

Although ferromagnetism is accountable for most of the effects of magnetism encountered in daily life, the Bill Nye Magnetism Worksheet follows along as students discover that all other materials are subjective to some extent by a magnetic field, by several other types of magnetism.
